Norwich City were at an advantaged position as Newcastle’ centre-back Ciaran Clark was awarded a red card just 9 minutes into the game making the canaries to dominate in the match.
Chelsea fans were annoyed to see loanee midfielder Billy Gilmour make a vital mistake during Norwich City’s vital Premier League clash against Newcastle.
Gilmour, 20, started as a the number 10 in Dean Smith’s rather attacking side that he fielded for the contest against the Magpies on Tuesday.
Despite a positive start that saw the Canaries’ opposition go down to ten men within the first 10 minutes after a moment of stupidity from centre-back Ciaran Clark, it was the ten men themselves who took the initiative in this contest against all the odds.
In the 61st minute, Eddie Howe’s players were rewarded for their grit and tenacity shown against the eleven of Norwich when Jonjo Shelvey’s corner was headed onto the flailing hand of the Scotsman by Federico Fernandez.
After VAR stepped in, it was obvious that Gilmour himself was guilty of handling the ball after his arm was outstretched.
The penalty in the end was just converted by Callum Wilson as the Toon took the all important lead in a game that could prove crucial in the relegation battle come May.
